Choose the perfect composite abrasive to satisfy the specification

SpongeBlasting offers standard and speciality abrasives, which can meet any specification while lowering the airborne dust, rebound and waste associated with conventional abrasives. Removes industrial coatings, abrade or profile up to 100+ microns (4+ mils). As a result, to save time, lower costs, accelerate blasting and paint operations, and extend the coating life with high-quality surface preparation.

Alu-Sponge Blasting Media

Combines one of the worlds hardest and most effective abrasives (aluminum oxide - mohs hardness 9) with the durability and recyclability of Sponge Blasting Media and a range of grit sizes to address virtually every application.

SG-Sponge Blasting Media

Used on heavily rusted steel or for the removal of thick or brittle coatings where removal by impact is required. (Hardness 60-66 Rc//> 700 HV)

MICRO-Sponge Blasting Media

Combines an alternative and less expensive abrasive to (Aluminum Oxide) (mohs hardness 8), with the durability and recyclability of Sponge Blasting Media and a range of grit sizes to address virtually every application.

ECO-Sponge Blasting Media

Control airborne dust, near sensitive equipment or when removing hazardous contaminants and coatings

Platinum-Sponge Blasting Media

Sponge Blast offer standard and specialty abrasive, which can meet any specifications while lowering the airborne dust, rebound and waste associated with conventional abrasives. Remove industrial coatings, abradeor profileupto 100+microns (4+mils).

Sponge-Bead Blasting Media

For sensitive substrate restoration, cleaning and selective stripping.

Whether removing dirt, exfoliation, soot, char, single layers of coating, oil or other contaminants, Sponge Blasting offers a dry, low dust, low rebound, reusable solution. Quickly achieve desired results on the most sensitive surfaces.

The heart of the Sponge Blasting

The heart of the Sponge Blasting System is its Sponge Media. This technology combines the containment capability of polymer sponge and the cleaning and cutting power of conventional abrasives.

The plaint nature of Sponge Blasting Media abrasives allows its particles to flatten on impact, exposing the abrasive. After leaving the surface, the media expands, creating a vacuum - entrapping most of what would normally have become airborne contaminants. This is referred to as Sponge Media Dust Contaminant.

Dry Abrasive Blasting with Up to 100% Less Dust.

Control airborne dust, near sensitive equipment or when removinhazardous contaminants and coatings.

The story about low dust:
Test data comparing conventional and Sponge Blasting Media abrasives have shown that Sponge Blasting Media abrasive blasting suppresses up to 100% of what would normally become airborne dust. Sponge Blasting media abrasives are manufactured with a tough, porous polymer sponge material, which controls or suppresses dust. Sponge Blast Media particles flatten as they strike the surface, then expose the abrasive where they cut into the coating and substrate, profiling (0 - 100+ microns (0 - 4+ mils)) - if needed. As the Sponge Blasting Media abrasive rebounds, the porous polymer creates suction, entrapping dust, paint, soot and other contaminants. This process is known as Micro Containment.

Improved Safety

  • Confined spaces are safer due to low rebound and high visibility
  • Decreased dust levels means lower worker exposure
  • Worker safety is enhanced due to high visibility and lower fatigue
  • Risks such as skin abrasion and eye injury may be reduced

New High Productions Systems

  • Nozzle production comparable with sand and coal slag
  • Automatic vacuum recovery, recycling and reloading

LessDown Time

  • Other trades can work during the blasting process
  • Nearby process equipment can continue to operate
  • Reduce total job time with less staging and cleanup

Why dust is the problem

Equipment Breakdown

Abrasive dust and water cause premature failure in instruments, electronics, and rotating equipment. Sponge Blasting technology eliminates up to 100% of abrasive dust to protect machinery.

Eye Injuries

Traditional blasting causes significant workplace eye injuries (1,000 eye injuries per day costing millions annually in South Africa). Sponge blasting reduces ricocheting, lowering workplace injuries.

Pollution

Abrasive blasting generates hazardous fugitive particulate emissions (< 10 microns). Sponge Blasting captures up to 100% of these emissions to reduce environmental and public health risks.

Downtime

Plant shutdowns can cost over $1 million per day. Sponge Blasting allows other trades (welders, electricians, mechanics) to work nearby simultaneously, speeding up project completion.

CONCLUSION

Effective Dry Method

Recyclable Encapsulated Abrasive Media removes surface contaminants like chlorides without needing water or chemicals.

Superior Chloride Removal

Often reduces chloride concentrations below specified limits in a single step compared to conventional blasting.

Faster & More Cost-Effective

Replaces complex multi-step processes (such as abrasive blast + water/chemical wash + final abrasive blast) into a single efficient operation.
